Created by young adults for young adults

Young adults are living in the midst of a narrative-rich popular culture, where movies and videos assume the roles previously held by story tellers and book authors. Today’s younger generations are certainly much more comfortable retelling stories or replicating dialogue than formulating and critiquing propositional statements. ROOTED was designed to utilize this medium of communication in a culturally relevant manner by exploring four modern-day “parables” (short-films) covering the topics of Truth, Science, Morality and Ethics. These films are the result of a partnership with four teams of talented and creative students, who were guided by two very accomplished professors, in Taylor University’s Communication Arts Department.

Each film is followed by a session in the format of studio conversations and individual student reflections designed to raise fundamental questions in a manner familiar with and inviting to contemporary teens and young adults. It is through these sessions that ideas and thought processes are analyzed in such a way as to help viewers think through these topics for themselves.

The Leader/Study Guides are designed to help facilitate individual or group study and include an optional extended resource section. The guides are structured to give the leader the freedom to choose a “thinking path” or “discussion vehicle” from various suggested options.

It is critically important that we help young adults to think through these issues for themselves so that what they believe is not just a set of propositions handed down to them from their parents or other adults, but rather a set of convictions that they have thought through, internalized and have reached a point where they know why they believe what they believe. This being the case, when the time comes and their faith is challenged they will have these principle ideas and concepts to fall back on and stand firm in the foundational truths of the Christian faith.
